Using your blood/plasma as face filler

Has anyone seen or heard of this proceedure. I found it interesting that they draw your blood then place it into a centrafuse ? and as it spins around the blood separates from the plasma and then they draw the plasma and then inject that into your face or whereever to fill/plump you back up again. Does it work, is it safe, they say all the "stars" have been doing for years?  Any feed back from anyone

I thought this topic might come up!  It was shown on Today Tonight yesterday.  I am actually going to an information evening on this next week and will be able to give more feedback then.

This technique has been used in other areas of medicine with good results eg. burns.  Therefore, I believe it is probably safe.  I don't know how much evidence there is to support it as a Cosmetic procedure.  However, there are plenty of things we do in Medicine that are not completely scientifically proven.  It costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to conduct proper medical trials and generally these trials are funded by the drug companies that own the drug.  Therefore, often the trials are potentially biased anyway.

I have met someone that has had this procedure and I did notice their skin looked better before they told me they had it done.  However, that is not proof - it is only an anecdotal observation.

I would like to see some histological evidence.  In other words, a patient has a biopsy of skin before and after treatment.  If this technique has merit then we should at least see some changes under the microscope.

Any volunteers???

I attended an information evening on this new technology on Monday.  The procedure is quite exciting and I suspect it will have a role to play in aesthetic medicine.  It is already being used for wound healing, leg ulcers, sports medicine for tendon injureies and in orthopaedic operations.  However, the evidence for use for cosmetic purposes is mainly anecdotal ie. based on observations rather than proper clinical studies.

The general feeling is that the procedure can help improve skin texture, skin thickness and general skin quality.  It is not designed to replace existing procedures such as botox or fillers but rather it is an extra tool or a procedure to be used in conjunction with these other modalities.

The main areas that I think it may be useful for are lower eyelid crepiness, tear troughs, neck rejuvenation and improving skin quality in the cheeks.

Watch this forum or the website for further announcements.....

OK guys, I have just undergone this new procedure. (Only 3 hours ago)
First I had numbing cream applied to the backs of my hands, upper chest area, under eyes and cheek area. (Areas to be treated of course)
Next I had to have my blood taken, then it was separated so the plasma could be injected.
Lots of tiny injections just under the skin were spread over the areas without much discomfort at all. There was instant swelling of the area which the doctor massages after the injecting is done. By the time I got home this had settled and wasn't too bad at all.
Right now my hands, face and chest look great, they are nicely plumped, but this is probably the swelling. I will let you know how things go, fingers crossed that my body can kick start making some great quantities of collagen with this procedure. :)

The swelling settled down over night, with just a little left under one eye today. I do have some lights bruising around my eyes, but I do bruise easily. There was no pain at all after the procedure.
At this stage I am loving the look of my hands, but I'm not sure if they are still slightly swollen??? I know the plasma will disperse and hopefully help my hands to make their own collagen. So there is bound to be a lot of changes along the way. They say the result can be seen in about 3 months. I will let you all know of the changes as they happen, fingers crossed. This is so exciting to be using our own bodily fluids to rebuild what time has worn out.

Well it's been 9 days and I have to say I ended up with some pretty good bruises. lol. They are just about gone now, another couple of days and I should be clear.
I have had some comments from friends that say they can see a difference in my eye and cheek area, smoother and fuller than usual. (This is good!) My hands I can still see a change in, they still seem fresher & not as lined & weathered. (Which I am over the moon about).
Will let things settle for a couple of weeks and then let you know if there have been any changes. Till next update. Stay beautiful & keep smiling :)

OK....Yesterday I had the 2nd lot of plasma injected and I must say Doc has fine tuned the procedure. It was a lot quicker than last time :)
As before the swelling happened instantly and the bruising is appearing as last time.
My hands have responded really well this time, they are a lot fuller and they have a slight pins and needles feeling to the touch. (something must be working in there).
I have had a LOT of comments about the skin under my eyes and my cheek area, people saying how smooth, plumped and healthy it looked. This is from people who did not know I had had this done, until I told them! I am feeling very optimistic about it all and think there will definitely be a place for this in our beauty routine. They say the full effects aren't seen for 3 months after the 3rd and final session. Then after that you only need a top up on the average every 18 months.

Hi all28

I am so glad to hear you are doing well.

I am also very happy to read that you are feeling optimistic about the results. I guess we will really know after the three month period.

I look forward to reading your further installments, until then I hope you continue to enjoy continued improvement.

Take care all28.

Rose

PS. Can you please let us know how painful you would consider this procedure to be.

Hi Rose

I don't find it painful at all. The numbing cream works really well. At the most all you feel is the initial prick of the needle.
The area is a little tender for a day or two afterwards but nothing that stops your everyday activities. So I would say vertually pain free!

I will be having the 3rd and final treatment early in the new year. Stay tuned for more results.

Just wanted to let you all know there is something that I have noticed. The skin on the back of my hands feels better and when I pinch it up it bounces back a lot quicker than it did before. I take that as a sign of more collagen than I had to start with.

Hope you all had a great christmas and new year.
A couple of days ago I underwent the FINAL plasma proceedure in the course! As usual there was no pain and again I have escaped with very minimal bruising.
Now we wait for approx. 3 months for the full effect to take place. It will be very interesting to compare the before and after photos I have taken. As I have said before, friends, before they know what I have been having done, have been saying that I look really well!
Time will tell if it has been a success, till then.
May your wrinkles be tiny ones........haha

Hi Vee,
My skin was crepey and lacked volume under my eyes, more so than wrinkles. There were a few, but mainly when I smiled.
I think the area has filled out more since having the plazma and it seems to have more "spring back" to the touch.
Will keep you all informed as too the final outcome. Till then keep searching, the fountain of youth is out there, SOMEWHERE!

yes i am also interested to hear what you think the overall effect of the plasma as face filler has been..whether you think it was a success..whether other treatments you've had are better and if so what was better. if youve got time, a detailed description of the results would make insightful reading (as they always are lol!) . Thanks in advance, i always find your reports fascinating :)

Hi Girls,

Well the initial results were great! Both my hands and around my eyes were definately greater in volume and had more elasticity than before. This lasted for about 4 to 5 months when I noticed my hands returning to their old ways. I have to admit they  still bounce back more when the skin is lifted but the volume has diminished. The area around my eyes seemed to hold it for a while longer and now when I have botox the result is a very nice smooth finish. If this is because of the plasma?????, I can't say. I don't think I would have it again, my body seemed to take up the plasma at a fast rate and I didn't see the growth of collogen that I would have liked.

As for my hands I have since had filler put in them and I am pleased to say that that IS A SUCCESS!! It has given me a natural youthful appearance and the volume can be controlled by the Doc.

So far my favourite list would have to be - Chemical Peel,(product name deleted due to TGA regulations), Fillers, Skin Check (no sun :(    and the good old ASAP range of products. But this is SO FAR...always new things around the corner...we live in hope...  :)

Would you be able to let me know where you had the plasma done or where it can be done.

I've had a very bad allergic reaction to fillers so cannot use them again.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday my sister and I had our first Medical Microdermabrasion session on our face and neck.

As I watched Nikki start the process I immediately began to notice a change to my sisters skin, it started to look fresh, clean and plump and even had a glow to it. I was not sure if I was imagining this change but the more Nikki did the change was obvious.

At the end of her microdermabrasion the result was fantastic and amazing. My sisters face looked brighter and fuller and the skin appeared more firm and plump. We were so impressed and I could not wait to have my turn.

Well, after my treatment I am so happy, my skin looks younger and I truly cannot describe the immediate results. I guess that is the part that impressed us. The treatment was not at all painful and the result really is immediate.

This morning my face is glowing and I really like how my skin looks and feel and I cannot wait to go back for further treatments.

I have not been asked to write a review but feel that a treatment like this that is non-invasive and gives such beautiful results deserves to be written about.

Thanks to Stephen for recommending this treatment to us and a thank you to Nikki (hope I spelt your name correctly) for making it so enjoyable.

See you in a few weeks.

Rose

Thanks Rose

I knew you would love this treatment!  I think the ultrasound with the microderm makes the difference.  The microderm removes the dead skin from the surface which allows the ultrasound to infuse vitamins into the deeper skin layers where it is needed.

I have copied your post and put it as a comment on the blog on the home page so more people can see it.  I hope you don't mind.

Woo Hooo, all this from one treatment. Can't wait for more.

do you feel that fillers are still a better choice than plasma and just as long lasting?

Wow, very informative site! I will be getting some plasma injections in a couple of weeks under my eyes. My doctor has recommended that I also get some FX laser done at the same time. Isn't it too much or does anybody know if it will be tolerable.

Thank you.
