What Causes Wrinkles?
We are actually born with wrinkles which are associated with the muscles we use for facial expression. Every time we laugh, smile, frown or squint, mild wrinkles are formed.
The wrinkles caused by facial expression are known as dynamic wrinkles. They tend to occur around the eyes (crows feet), between the eyebrows (frown lines) and on the forehead. As we become older these wrinkles become deeper and more noticeable. They can make people look older, tired or worried. Injections can be used to treat these dynamic wrinkles.
As we age or are repeatedly exposed to the sun the skin thins and loses elasticity. As the skin stretches and sags crepe-paper wrinkles form. Anti-wrinkle injections are not an effective treatment for these wrinkles but other procedures may be utilised.
What Areas can Anti-Wrinkle Injections Treat?

Anti-wrinkle injections provide the best results when used on areas that form lines with muscle movements, including frown lines, crows feet and forehead wrinkles. They can also be used on the muscles around the eyebrows to give the effect of an eyebrow lift.
The image on the left summarises the areas in which anti-wrinkle injections are most effective. Generally they are most useful in the upper face. The three areas in which they give the most dramatic results are frown lines, Crows feet and forehead lines. When used around the mouth and in the neck there is a higher risk of complications.
