Cosmetic Services offered by Dr Wassall:

Choosing a Doctor

There are several factors you should consider before undergoing any cosmetic procedure. These are medical procedures and should be administered by an appropriately trained, experienced Medical Practitioner. Dr Wassall has received appropriate initial and ongoing training with all the products he uses.

Because of the complex musculature of the face, the doctor should have an understanding of the relevant facial anatomy. Dr Wassall regularly performs skin cancer surgery on the face and has completed a Masters Degree in Primary Care Skin Cancer Medicne. This degree involved detailed study of facial anatomy and muscle function. This has allowed Dr Wassall to inject products with greater precision.

The doctor should offer a complete evaluation of treatment alternatives and take a relevant medical history. The benefits, risks and side-effects should be discussed before informed consent is given by the patient. No pressure or expectation placed on the patient to undergo the procedure. Dr Wassall strives to practice with the highest ethical standards with honesty and integrity. He has completed postgraduate studies in ethics and professionalism. He will not recommend or perform a procedure believes is not in the client's best interests.

Cost is also a factor to consider. Dr Wassall offers a very competitive pricing structure and is happy to give a complimentary, obligation free assessment and quotation. Dr Wassall offers significant savings for patients requiring larger volumes of products. Also, Dr Wassall is able to administer local anaesthetic block injections to minimise the discomfort of the procedure.

Choosing the correct person or clinic on the Central Coast to perform your injectable cosmetic procedures is very important.   Obviously, you need to choose somebody that you feel comfortable with. You should also ensure that your practitioner is appropriately trained and qualified to perform anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers. The environment in which the procedure is performed is also important. Despite the media using terms such as "lunch time facelift" or "liquid facelift" it is vital to understand that these are medical procedures with potential side-effects and complications.

The Injecting Environment

Cosmetic procedures such as anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers are medical procedures.  As such, they are best performed in a medical environment. There are several beauty salons and even hairdressers on the Central Coast that offer cosmetic injectable treatments.  Be aware that some salons are marketing themselves as "clinics".  A true clinic is primarily a medical facility.

A purpose built or dedicated environment has the following advantages:
  • Rigorous hygiene and sterility standards.  The standards required for accredited medical clinics exceeds those required in beauty salons.
  • Adequate lighting to ensure accurate clinical assessment  and avoid blood vessels on the face when injecting.  This decreases the risk of bruising.
  • Sufficient room and purpose built layout, ergonomic design and positioning ability of treatment couches.  This helps position the patient correctly to enhance assessment and improve the ability of the injector to precisely deliver products exactly where they are intended to be placed.
  • Assurance of confidentiality and discretion.  Apart from the absolute necessity of all health practitioners to ensure patient confidentiality, it is also important to ensure that the clinic is designed to offer separate waiting and reception areas as well as treatment rooms being completely separated from public areas of the clinic.  This level of privacy can help avoid incidental breaches of confidentiality caused by clients over hearing other people's conversations.
  • Option for nursing support and assistance. Having an extra set of hands can help with patient comfort and help ensure your injector is able to deliver the best result.
  • Ability to administer appropriate medical grade pain relief. This can include numbing creams, nerve blocks and inhaled analgesia. These methods should only be performed in a medical setting where potential complications can be managed.
  • Ability to deal with a medical emergency.  Although rare, allergic reactions and complications do occur.  Sometimes people simply faint after having a procedure.  If having your injections in a non-medical environment it is still advisable to have access to basic medical equipment such as oxygen and emergency medication.
