Melanoma
Melanoma
Melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer. The key to maximising the chance of cure is by early diagnosis. It is now generally regarded that a technique known as dermoscopy allows the clinician to diagnose melanoma at its earliest stages and also helps reduce the number of unnecessary excisions. The following photographs are all taken by Dr Wassall. The photographs have been taken by attaching a digital camera to the dermatoscope. Please click on the images to enlarge them.
Please take particular note of the last two photographs. These are photographs of the same mole that has changed gradually over a period of 3 months. The changes identified it as being a very early melanoma. Sometimes it is very difficult or impossible to diagnose early melanoma without monitoring for change.
As you can see, there is a vast variety of presentations for melanoma. Dr Wassall believes that it is imperative that you recieve a skin cancer examination from somebody that is adequately trained with dermoscopy.
